The Nike Replica
Marble (Thasian marble) exact copy of the statue of the carved from Parian marble winged Nike of Samothrace discovered at the Sanctuary of the Great Gods in 1863 by the French diplomat Charles Champoiseau. Τhe statue consist part of a monument and Nike has just alighted on the prow of a tetreres or quadrireme, a warship of the period of the dedication of the monument (first half of the 2 nd cent. BC) The patron-dedicator of the monument and its sculptor/sculptors remain unknown. The original monument in its complete form (socle, prow, statue) is exhibited in the Louvre. The latter allowed the use of its 3-D Scanning of the monument for the production of two copies, one for Alexandroupolis – one for Samothrace, by the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace through the initiative of the late Regional Governor George Pavlidis. The copies were produced and offered to the Region by F.H.L. I. KIRIAKIDIS Marbles – Granites S.A.
